Pilato S.p.A., through PILTRADE s.r.l., is also a network of direct supermarkets present with 4 stores, in Naples, Portici and Caserta. Of particular note and importance is the CRAI store at Capodichino Airport.

In 2016 PILATO STORE was born, an innovative entrepreneurial project marked by the development of a chain of stores dedicated to beauty, personal care and home hygiene products: a merchandise offer strongly differentiated in terms of choice and price competitiveness, a reality constantly looking for quality of service and direct contact with the end customer.

Antonino Flocco

General Director Pilato Spa

In 2008-2009, Pilato SpA management decided to improve some aspects of the logistics process to improve the organization and management of all logistics flows in the Vitulazio (CE) warehouse: goods entry, storage, internal handling, picking and inventory

GOALS

The goals of the restructuring project were:

  • increased performance;
  • use of the voice system;
  • security of inventories;
  • elimination of the final control phase;
  • decrease in errors;
  • independence from human resources;
  • improved customer service;
  • increased accuracy and efficiency.

ISSUES

The main problems in logistics flow management were:

  • management of netting based on promotional constraints
  • synchronization of different handling equipment with each other and thus relative handling
  • pallet formation directly at picking
  • preventive calculation of vehicle filling

After careful evaluation, Pilato decided to implement Replica Sistemi's StockSystem solution in both the standard version, with RF terminals, and the SMA.I.L:) Voice, to optimize picking and inventory operations.

The execution of warehouse operations is thus entrusted:

  • to the Voice-Picking system (StockVoice) by which operators receive instructions, confirm the correctness of their work, report errors by speaking and listening to SMA.I.L:) StockSystem via a headset, microphone and a lightweight, compact terminal strapped to the belt;
  • to the RF system that enables real-time transmission of data to the warehouse management system. Logistics operators work efficiently using RF (Radio Frequency) terminals interfaced with remote Access Point repeaters.

  • WMS: StockSystem
  • Add-on: SMA.I.L:) Voice

  • Voice Hardware: 25 terminals Vocollect
  • Hand-held Hardware: 17 terminals

The analysis project was structured by identifying a figure within the company who, together with the Replica Sistemi project manager, carried out:

  • Verification tests of each individual function on an updated DB;
  • Met with warehouse operators (especially in the last month before installation).
  • Identified the start date.

In May 2009, in collaboration with Replica Sistemi's Project manager, all the analyses were made regarding warehouse layout, types of materials, incoming and storage flows, picking and shipping flows and integration with the central information system.

Between June and July, SMA.I.L:) software was installed. StockSystem and SMA.I.L:) Voice, testing was done and then training of operators.

From the beginning of October, the use of the system for goods entry began.

At the end of October, the first inventory was made and then went into full operation with total shipments.

StockSystem thus manages all activities related to the movement of goods: from when they enter (unloading lists or bem) to when they leave (loading lists). It receives data on incoming goods and outgoing orders from HOST and resends them at the end of each process. Thus, the following processes are managed through StockSystem: goods receipt, storage, internal handling, material picking, rotating inventory, control, and shipping.Between June and July, the StockSystem software and SMA.I.L:) Voice, testing was done, followed by operator training.

The Partesa Lombardia warehouse computerization project is a concrete case of innovation in logistics and demonstrates the reliability and quality of Replica Sistemi's software products integrated with modern technologies such as Voice.

  • Real-time movements and 'everywhere' information
  • Time and operator certainty
  • Timely management of replenishment between locations in the same warehouse
  • Real-time warehouse interrogations
  • Efficiency in warehouse space utilization

  • Simplifications in rotary inventory management at zero periodic inventory.
  • High traceability of pallet handling
  • Abatement of the phenomenon of material breakage
  • Increased quality of customer service

With the use of SMA.I.L:)Voice:

  • Increased productivity: hands-free - focus on the picking operation
  • Decrease of up to 20% in goods inspection and storage time

  • Decrease of up to 25% in picking time
  • Reduction in margin of error greater than 30%
