GRUBER Logistics S.p.A.

Logistics & Transportation

Gruber Logistics, a long-standing Italian company in the transport and integrated logistics sector founded in Ora (BZ) in 1936 by Josef Gruber, has chosen to integrate Zucchetti's WMS Replica and TMS Sima to optimise the coordinated management of warehouse and transport flows.

This project is in line with the innovative vision of the Group, which has 60 branches in 15 countries.

Since 1986, the company has been using TMS Sima – known on the market under the SGA brand – as a vertical ERP specifically for transport and shipping companies. It is a robust and flexible tool, capable of responding promptly to the operational and management needs of a highly complex sector.

Starting about ten years ago, Gruber Logistics also extended its digitalisation to warehouse logistics, implementing WMS Replica in all its warehouses, with the aim of ensuring complete control of activities and offering customers value-added services such as kitting, customised packaging and promotional labelling specific to the various large retail chains, both in Italy and abroad.

One of the most significant examples of the effectiveness of Gruber Logistics' digital approach is the Corteolona logistics hub in the province of Pavia.

The warehouse covers an area of 22.000 square metres, with a capacity of 32.000 pallet spaces distributed over 14 metres in height, supported by 40 loading bays. Inside, 60 employees are engaged in managing approximately 10.000 items belonging to different customers operating in diverse sectors, from dry food to products for retail and industry.

Gruber Logistics offers both traditional logistics services and highly specialised value-added activities on this website, such as:

  • Omnichannel management, with order preparation for delivery to:
    • large-scale retail outlets; distribution centres (e.g. Amazon); end customers (e-commerce)
  • Preparation of single/multi-product displays
  • Set-up of promotions for large-scale retail outlets
  • Kitting & Repackaging
  • Returns management, divided into three categories:
    • Regeneration: restocking of recoverable products; Repackaging: quality control and preparation for re-entry; Waste management: shredding, disposal and entrusting to specialists for disposal

WMS REPLICA

In the case of food products, where it is essential to monitor expiry dates, WMS Replica ensures FEFO (First Expired, First Out) management, guaranteeing that the batches that entered the warehouse and have the earliest expiry date are the first to leave. For the management of these items, Gruber Logistics also boasts HACCP certification, which protects the safety and quality of the products.

TMS SIMA

With TMS Sima, the company manages both FTL (Full Truck Load) shipments, i.e. full loads for a single customer on a direct route, and LTL (Less Truck Load) shipments, i.e. partial loads, relying on third-party carriers for the groupage of full load journeys, with a view to optimising costs and environmental sustainability.

The integration between the two Zucchetti software programmes is crucial. They are perfectly connected to each other and capable of covering the entire operational cycle: from planning and optimising shipments to preparing and setting up orders.
This synergy guarantees traceability, accuracy and punctuality of deliveries, which are fundamental elements for a competitive logistics service.

"We chose Replica WMS and Sima TMS for their ease of integration and ability to manage many customers in a structured and simple manner to ensure cost savings, sustainability and, above all, customer satisfaction."

The operational flow

The operational flow of Gruber Logistics focuses on the end customer, ensuring a fully digitised and integrated process:

  • The customer's ERP sends orders to the Replica WMS and Sima TMS;
  • The Sima TMS is used to plan shipments, grouping orders and calculating volumes in order to optimise loads;
  • If applicable, collections of any returns from customers are also synchronised;
  • Journeys are communicated to the carrier, while orders to be picked are transmitted to the WMS.

This is where WMS Replica comes into play, managing the entire warehouse operation:

  • The WMS prepares picking lists, optimising routes;
  • Picking activities are supported by Voice synthesis and recognition technology integrated into the WMS, which guides operators through picking operations, increasing accuracy and speed of work in the warehouse;
  • At the end of picking, the operator prints the label and waybill for the carrier, complete with tracking code;
  • The carrier makes the delivery and certifies receipt, while the TMS Sima collects and updates all shipment information, ensuring full traceability;
  • Finally, in the event of returns, these are returned to the warehouse and taken over by the WMS.

The Benefits of integration

The integration between WMS Replica and TMS Sima by Zucchetti results in a perfectly coordinated digital system, which allows Gruber Logistics to improve internal efficiency and offer a top-level service to its customers.

  • Multi-company optimisation
    Efficient delivery planning for multiple companies on the same journey, with better vehicle saturation and faster management.

Therefore, WMS-TMS integration is a strategic lever for the logistical excellence of Gruber Logistics, creating real value for both the company and its customers.

The secret of success

"Zucchetti software is enabling us to increase our market share without significant difficulty and providing us with the support we need at this time, when robust technology and software are essential for this type of business.
In my experience, merging the two areas of warehousing and transport has always yielded good results; therefore, it will also simplify and reduce response times and the integrations needed to ensure a comprehensive logistics flow."
